22 October 2011 - HORSTED KEYNES 3-4 PEASE POTTAGE III - Somerville Cup Round 2
Pease Pottage finally got a deserved win against Horsted Keynes in the Somerville Cup.
The first goal of the game came after a mistake by the Horsted Keynes goalkeeper as a poor clearance fell to the feet of SAM WETHERALL who found the centre of an empty net from 40 yards. 1-0. Horsted Keynes equalised soon after as a ball played down the right wasn't dealt with, and a good cross found the centre forward who tapped in from 6 yards out. 1-1.
Pottage made a change at half time with Jack Grimstone being replaced by Lee Francis and the substitute made an immediate impact as his strength and power was too much for Horsted Keynes to handle. The ball was played out wide to Sam Wetherall who crossed to the back post for STEVE BURTON to head home and put Pottage ahead. 2-1. But the home side were level again soon after as a free kick was played into the box and the number 9 lost his marker to score his second goal of the game. 2-2. Pottage still looked strong going forward and went back in front after more good work in midfield. The ball was played through the centre which JOE SWEI ran onto before placing the ball into the bottom corner. 3-2. However once again, Pottage lost concentration and the Horsted Keynes winger wasn't closed down as he cut inside and curled the ball around the keeper and into the top corner to again equalise for the home side. 3-3. As the game looked destined for extra time, a penalty was awarded to Pottage after a handball by a Horsted Keynes defender. Sam Wetherall stepped up but his penalty was saved, JOE SWEI reacting first to tap in the rebound to give Pease Pottage a 4-3 win.

29 October 2011 - PEASE POTTAGE III 3-2 CUCKFIELD RANGERS II - MSFL Division 5
Pease Pottage hosted a strong Cuckfield Rangers reserve side and came away with all 3 points. After a shaky start which saw Cuckfield hit the post, Pottage dominated creating a number of chances, however just before half time it was the away side who opened the scoring as a ball over the top left the centre forward one on one, and the number 9 lifted the ball over the advancing keeper to score. 0-1.
Despite being behind at half time, Pottage were still confident and scored within 45 seconds of the restart, with JOE SWEI finding space and time in the area to pick his spot and level the scores to 1-1. However, Cuckfield went back in front from a corner, as the number 5 lost his man and headed the away side back into the lead. 1-2. Lee Francis replaced the hard working Joe Masterson who had a good game in midfield. Pottage equalised again after a quick Swei corner was met by VINNY SWAINE who headed into the top corner with no defender in sight. 2-2.
Both sides continued to work hard with Pottage creating a number of chances, Jordan Lacey hitting the bar with a 30 yard effort and Steve Burton heading over when left unmarked from a corner. Cuckfield should have scored but for an excellent challenge by Josh Wetherall, tracking his man and heading the ball off the line under pressure. You always sensed there would be a winner and with just over 5 minutes to go the ball was played to man of the match JAMIE KNIGHT who found the top corner from just inside the area. 3-2. Cuckfield threw everything at Pottage in the last few minutes, but solid defending ensured Pease Pottage took all 3 points.

12th November 2011 - PEASE POTTAGE III 2-1 JARVIS BROOK II - MSFL Division 5
Pease Pottage hosted Jarvis Brook Reserves and moved up to 5th with a 2-1 win. Pottage went ahead inside 5 minutes, Jarvis Brook number 4 scoring an OWN GOAL following a cross from the right. 1-0. An injury forced Pottage into an early change, Lee Francis replacing top scorer Joe Swei. The home side should have gone in at half time 4 or 5 up, but failed to score from good positions following good play in midfield.
Steve Burton was replaced by Andy Haynes at half time, and the striker set up VINNY SWAINE who drilled the ball home to score his third goal in 3 games and double Pottage's lead, midway through the second half. 2-0. Jarvis Brook then hit the post before pulling a goal back, Cooper coming off the bench to punch the ball over the line. 2-1. Calum Vilner replaced the injured Jamie Knight, and Swaine then hit the post for Pottage from 30 yards. Pottage keeper Ollie Gurr pulled off a world class save from a Cooper free kick to give Pottage a 2-1 win.
Pottage travel to Polegate Town reserves next, before hosting Handcross Village in the quarter finals of the Somerville cup.

19th November 2011 - POLEGATE TOWN II 3-3 PEASE POTTAGE III - MSFL Division 5
Pottage travelled to Polegate and played out an entertaining draw, despite being the better side for most of the game. For the second week running, Swei was replaced by Francis early on due to injury. Pottage opened the scoring, captain Sam Wetherall winning a penalty, JOE MASTERSON scoring from the spot. Pottage wasted a number of chances to increase their lead before Polegate equalised through a D.Martin half volley. 5 minutes later they scored a second, R.Dummer seeing his sliced cross loop over Bonner in the Pottage goal. A minute later the home side increased their lead, P.Critchfield heading in from a corner. Half time 1-3.
Pottage pulled a goal back after the restart, Knight crossing for STEVE BURTON to head in from close range. The equaliser came after Burton beat his man and crossed for JOE MASTERSON to score his second. Burton hit the bar from 25 yards and Knight had a good effort saved low down before Haynes scored for Pottage, only for the linesman to incorrectly flag him offside. Vilner and Symonds replaced Roberts and Haynes. Both sides had chances to win the game, but the scores stayed level. Full time 3-3.

Pease Pottage returned to league action, travelling the short distance to Handcross Village, who they beat in the cup the previous week.
Pottage had the better of the opening 20 minutes, however against the run of play found themselves behind, B.Aston scoring to make it 1-0. And soon after, it was 2-0, a mistake at the back left J.Matthews one on one and he rounded Gurr to score. Pottage got back into the game with an excellent goal from STEVE BURTON, who volleyed in from just inside the area to make it 2-1 at half time. The second half started fairly even, both sides creating chances but it was Handcross who scored again, S.Smale tapping in after a cross from the right. The game was stopped for over 5 minutes after a nasty challenge on Burton, J.Wetherall replacing the injured goalscorer. With only 20 minutes to go, the Pottage players still believed they could get something out of the game, and after S.Wetherall hit the post, Pottage pulled a goal back through a deflected effort from JAMIE KNIGHT, for his 5th goal of the season. Swei replaced the hardworking Haynes up front and with the last kick of the game, Pottage equalised through captain SAM WETHERALL, which based on the second half performance, was well deserved. Full time 3-3.
Another league draw, but the draw means Pease Pottage extend their unbeaten run to 8, with 5 wins and 3 draws in all competitions.
Thank you to Handcross for the tea after the game, much appreciated.

Pease Pottage were on the road once again with a trip to East Court. Pottage won a corner with their first attack of the game and, direct from the corner Sam Wetherall hit the crossbar, the ball fell to full back Matt Coleman who also hit the crossbar, with opposite full back Andy Haynes striking the rebound wide. Pottage had five or six chances before finally opening the scoring after JOE SWEI controlled a long ball before finishing into the bottom corner. The lead was doubled a couple of minutes later with a ball over the top this time controlled by STEVE BURTON who scored his first of the game. Pottage continued to dominate, and goals 3, 4 and 5 were soon scored, STEVE BURTON and JOE SWEI both scoring their second goals with SAM WETHERALL getting on the score sheet. STEVE BURTON made it 6-0 with his hatrick goal, before East Court scored just before the half time whistle. HT 6-1.
The second half started slowly, with both teams playing some nice football and creating chances but the next goal wasn't until 15 minutes into the half, STEVE BURTON scoring with a lob from just inside the area for his 4th. East Court scored when the ball wasn't cleared to pull a goal back, and then played 5 minutes of some nice passing football which created a couple of half chances, with the centre pairing of Leigh Watkins and George Newman tackling strongly and stand-in goal keeper Tony Symonds making a couple of good saves. Pottage made a sub with injured Joe Swei leaving the pitch, being replaced by Josh Wetherall and with one of his first touches, he set up JOE MASTERSON for the goal of the game, a half volley from 22 yards to make it 8-2. As the game moved into the last few minutes, East Court scored a third before JOSH WETHERALL bundled the ball in and STEVE BURTON scored his 5th goal with a header from 8 yards to complete the scoring. FT 10-3.

Pease Pottage travelled to Chailey to play Halsford Lions. Pottage found themselves behind when the Lions scored against the run of play, but soon equalised through ANDY HAYNES who found space at the back post to tap in his first of the season. Joe Swei had to be replaced early on due to injury (which transpired to be a broken metatarsal) so George Newland came on to take his place up front. The wind was causing Pottage problems and Halsford Lions scored two goals in quick succession, before scoring another just before half time to give a scoreline of 4-1.
Straight from the kick off, more terrible defending allowed Halsford Lions to score again before scoring their 6th goal soon after. With 25 minutes to go, Pottage started to play some great football and pulled a goal back through MATT GREENHILL before a JACK MUNDAY penalty made it 6-3. Matt Coleman scored another only for it to be disallowed by the referee before STEVE BURTON scored the goal of the game with a strike from 30 yards with his weak foot for 6-4. JAMIE KNIGHT tapped in to make it 6-5 and as the dominance continued, Pottage won a corner in the last minute with keeper Ollie Gurr getting involved. However, despite a number of chances, Pottage couldn't find a deserved equaliser.

MAN OF MATCH: STEVE BURTON
Pease Pottage hosted Danehill and it was very one-sided from the first minute. Pottage raced into a 3-0 lead inside 15 minutes, JOE MASTERSON with a powerful freekick, TOM FAMILTON with his first of the afternoon and JACK MOODY scoring after good build up involving Matt Coleman, Steve Burton and Familton. Burton, who last week scored the goal of the season so far, managed the miss of the season, somehow putting the ball over the bar from 4 yards out with the goal gaping. Danehill created two chances of their own, but keeper Jack Grimstone wasn't troubled as the game reached half time. Into the second half and Pease Pottage scored with STEVE BURTON making up for his earlier miss, scoring his tenth goal of the season. Suspended player/ manager Sam Wetherall made a change as Jack Moody was replaced by Andy Haynes who went up front with Burton switching to right midfield and within a couple of minutes ANDY HAYNES scored to make it 5-0. Billy McMillan replaced Coleman and Matt Greenhill was replaced by Jamie Judge who was making his first appearance since return from injury to the delight of his team mates. Despite the Danehill captain's best efforts to drive his team on, the away side were simply outplayed and TOM FAMILTON scored his second of the game before completing his debut hatrick. From a rare Danehill chance, Pottage keeper Grimstone pulled off a brilliant save from point blank range. Leigh Watkins made an impressive 70 yard run, beating 5 players on his way but not the keeper before Jack Munday had a goal disallowed just before the final whistle.

Pease Pottage and Handcross Village played out a fiercely contested derby at Finches Field with both sides taking a point from the game. Both sides created early chances, but it was Handcross who took the lead when B. Aston beat the offside trap to score. Pottage equalised when a ball through the middle left STEVE BURTON one on one and he scored his 11th of the season to overtake the injured Joe Swei as top scorer. HT 1-1.
Into the second half and as the half went on, the commitment was seen from both sides as the tackles went in. Ollie Gurr in the Pottage goal made up for a mistake with a smart save low down before Matt Coleman and Tony Symonds combined down the left to win a corner. Debutant Gary Matthews's corner was met by TOM FAMILTON to put Pottage ahead. Jamie Knight was replaced by Jamie Judge and his first involvement nearly brought another goal but for a fine save by the Handcross keeper. George Newland and Matt Greenhill replaced Tony Symonds and Joe Masterson. With only a few minutes left, a deep Handcross freekick found J. Jenkins who scored a fine overhead kick to equalise for the away side. Quick mention on the match referee Nick Levett who was superb all game.

Pease Pottage III played Buxted Reserves at Finches Field and, after the away game earlier in the season, knew what to expect. Buxted took the lead very early on when the number 11 lost his marker to head in a free kick. Pottage equalised when the ball fell to JACK MUNDAY, whose shot crept in through the keepers hands.
Into the second half and Pottage won a penalty. JACK MUNDAY sent the keeper the wrong way to score his second. Midway through the half Buxted equalised through the big number 10 before the number 8 beat Jack Grimstone from 30 yards to win the game for Buxted.
Dissapointing to lose the unbeaten home record in the last home game, but 4 wins, 4 draws and 1 loss is something to be proud of.
